- APCOA enters into cooperation with charging station operator “The New Motion”

Frankfurt am Main, 17 September 2015 – APCOA PARKING Group, Europe's leading parking facility operator is addressing the topics of “Client Benefits through Digitisation” and “Sustainability / Environmental Care through Digitisation” at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show IAA (15 - 27 September 2015). The company is raising the subject not least to present its idea for an open online platform named Parkway. At the same time, APCOA is about to enter into a cooperation with The New Motion Deutschland GmbH, the German subsidiary of charging station vendor The New Motion. The collaboration is APCOA's strategic contribution to the ongoing expansion of electric mobility in Germany.

Parkway – the Swifter and Easier Way to Find a Place to Park
Motorists spend an average of ten minutes hunting for a place to park, covering 4.5 kilometres in the process and producing around 1.3 kilograms of carbon dioxide. With its latest product Parkway, APCOA is presenting a solution to this problem by offering an online platform that gives all parking providers – be they public or private – the option to have their parking spots listed for motorists. “Our medium-term goal is to make the approach to downtown parking spots much quicker, simpler and more convenient – without any extra charge to motorists”, said Ralf Bender, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group. Still in its pilot phase at the moment, the roll-out of Parkway is scheduled for 2016.

Platform to Integrate Parking Spots of Cities and Municipalities
Parkway is principally open to future partnerships with other car park operators. Even facilities not operated by APCOA are to be technically integrated in the system. “In the future, we also want cities and municipalities to have the option to integrate their curbside parking spots in this platform”, said Ralf Bender. “Digitisation is progressing in parking as much as in any other sector. In the future, drivers will increasingly rely on internet and smartphone to find a place to park, and eventually become unaware of parking spots not digitally registered.”

Fewer Paper Tickets Bought at Pay-on-Foot Stations
According to APCOA's plans, Parkway will also give motorists additional service options, such as making online reservations. Benefits for registered drivers will include contactless entering and exiting of car parks and controlled-access parking lots, because their cars will be recognised automatically by their Parkway chip on the wind shield. Another option is cashless payment at the end of the month. “Parkway demonstrably enhances the level of convenience for regular parkers”, said Bender. “Our medium-term goal is to make the need to stop at a barrier and to walk to a pay-on-foot station a thing of the past.”

Benefiting Any Parking Provider
The new platform offers parking providers a more efficient way to market their available parking spots. “It is of the essence to have an alliance of property owners, municipalities and parking facility operators collaborate in this project. This gives all parking providers the option to increase their levels of customer satisfaction, capacity utilisation and competitiveness.”

Collaborating with “The New Motion”
By collaborating with “The New Motion”, APCOA will contribute substantially to the expansion of electric mobility in Germany. “While many of the other players have adopted a wait-and-see attitude, we intend to play a more active role in this urgent process”, said Bender. In a first step, 50 APCOA sites will be equipped with charging stations. Going forward, the network will be continually expanded, and include locations outside Germany. “This will help us live up to our commitment to be a reliable provider of solutions for urban mobility”, said Bender.

“New Mobility World”, the showroom for networked driving at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will open on 17 September 2015. You will find the APCOA / PARKWAY booth in Hall 3.1 Stand A31.

In the Wake of the Successful Refinancing

http://apcoa.com/press/press-releases/article/in-the-wake-of-the-successful-refinancing/

Stuttgart, 09 September 2015 | APCOA PARKING Group, Europe's leading parking facility operator, registered a substantial gain in funds from operations and profit before taxes during H1 2015. “With the successful refinancing bid in place since the end of last year, we created the conditions for continued international growth,” said Ralf Bender, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group.

  • Consolidated revenues grow slightly to 326 million euros, external sales stable at 513 million euros.
  • Funds from operation increase by 1.9 million euros to a total of 23.5 million euros
  • Profit before taxes climbs to 8.4 million euros
  • Business lines PARK & CONTROL and parking management expand across Europe

During the first six months of 2015, APCOA grossed consolidated revenues of c. 326 million euros (H1 2014: 325 million euros). As service provider for contractual partners, the group of companies realised additional external sales of c. 187 million euros that are not included in the consolidated revenues. Accordingly, the total sales volume once again exceeded half a billion euros by midyear (513 million euros, up from 512 million euros the previous year).

The earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT), which rose from -7.4 million (H1 2014) to 8.4 million by the end of the concluded semester are particularly impressive. At the same time, the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 1.9 million euros year on year during H1, from 21.6 million euros to 23.5 million euros. Owing to a better capacity utilisation of parking facilities, APCOA also improved its operating margin by altogether 1.2 percent, from 14.3 to 15.5 percent

Growth Particularly Brisk in City Parking, Hotel Parking and Car Park Surveillance

Across Europe, the company continued to gain ground with new parking management and parking enforcement mandates, adding 366 new locations and bringing the total up to 8,561 locations. Aside from growth spikes in the segments city parking and hotels with 37 and 39 new locations added, respectively, the majority of new mandates represented the business unit PARK & CONTROL, which is to be further expanded internationally.

“We are registering a rising demand in this line of business line that is generated by retail companies and private property owners who wish to make sure that their customer parking spots are not occupied by unauthorised third parties”, said Bender. For instance, PARK & CONTROL signed new agreements for the German branches of the Dutch non-food discount multiple Action and for the branches of the German food multiple Tegut.

Parking Management also Gathering Momentum

APCOA also added parking management mandates across Europe to its portfolio. Cases in point include Gdańsk Airport, the Opole shopping mall and the Warsaw Financial Center in Poland. Another instance is Switzerland where APCOA acquired the mandate for the multi-storey car park at the convention centre of Biel. The agreement with the Centralbahnparking multi-storey car park in Basel was renewed. In the Italian city of Milan, APCOA signed an agreement for the “Porta Nuova Varesine” car park. At the same time, the company continued to expand its so-called Telepass service in Italy. The system offers motorists a contactless and cashless option for entering and exiting car parks by using their Telepass transponder.

Bright Outlook for Continued Growth

“After years of stagnation, we are seeing a trend toward rising parking rates, not least against the background of rising costs for urban mobility, including for public transportation, taxi and rail”, said Bender. Here, prices have been rising at a rate of seven to ten percent since 2012. Some cities and municipalities have actually doubled their fines for illegal parking. The price growth in parking, by contrast, has averaged around two percent since 2012. “APCOA Group's trend in revenues in July and August makes us quite confident that we will see further growth in the second half of the year. Given the robust capacity utilisation of our parking garages, we believe there is still a margin for additional pricing measures in the industry”, as Bender said.
